Fingernail Fashion

This 1927 Good Housekeeping magazine ad shows the Shapely Almond Nail that was the fashionable shape for fingernails at that time. Fingernails are not something most of us think about when we think of fashions, or at least not me. It's true though--1930's had polished nails, French tips for some these days. I'm more old fashioned than I thought--my nails look like the ones above.

I actually like a nice almond-shaped fingernail. It's when they move into cashew territory that I get uncomfortable.

Mine look more like Macadamia nuts.

Susan,
I just bought a vintage adjustable hemmer with an adapter to fit my Bernina. I received the instructions (also vintage) and I can NOT for the life of me figure out how to insert the fabric. I read both of your hemmer posts, and still can't figure it out. I am wondering if you can help me. You seem to be the vintage sewing stuff guru. My fabric either fold up, or it just slips out to the right. Thank you! my email is escnkoehler@gmail.com Thank you!

I'll email you, Stacey. Sometimes with the hemmer you do have to pull more than you'd think to get the fabric into it and started.
