This shift dress belonged to my grandmother. Of all the beautiful dresses she had, I wonder why the three or four I have were saved. Perhaps this one because of the elaborate embroidery down the entire front.
A close-up of the embroidery.
A lovely hand picked zipper.
The seam edges are turned under and stitched.
The neck and sleeves have a bias binding.
I wish you could see this dress on -- it's not very flattering. It's a little too rectangular and not fitted much at all, sort of shapeless. It has French darts, but they're not doing much. In the late 80's I used to wear this a lot -- I found that by wearing a black turtleneck and tights with it, it looked much better. Alas, that was before I had children...I can no longer get it onto my hips.

It's a beautiful dress, love all the fine details. AND...yes that sedum gets everywhere, I really meant it when I said relentless, though my chives win out against it every tim.
I love the bold design down the front! It almost looks like the fabric was made for something else and then stitched into a dress. I wish I had some of my grandmother's clothes, but both of my grandmothers got rid of they're stuff a long time before I was old enough to be interested,
