Broken Dishes Quilt Blocks

In the evenings lately I've been piecing some Broken Dishes blocks together.  It's one of the wonderful old patterns that can be put together in a variety of ways.  In the photo above I've laid the blocks all going the same direction.  In the next one they alternate.

They can be put as alternating blocks with plain ones or sashing between too.  When I envisioned this quilt I had the first layout in mind, so I'm going with it.

I found I'm four blocks short after I arranged the quilt on the floor.  I must have miscalculated (again) -- back to the cutting table!

Very pretty, those colors are some of my favorites.

That superficially simple pattern has so many shapes depending how you look at it, I saw pinwheels and squares and all sorts of stuff.

Don't you just love the old patterns? This morning, while walking in the garden, I thought of a pattern I have in a very old book and haven't pieced in years. The block is Barbara Fritsche (sp?) Rose. I think I want to make a whole quilt of those blocks and see what happens. We'll see. Not like a need another project, mind you. Lane

Hi Susan,
I love the order-from-chaos aspect of quilting (from a non-quilter's point of view). BTW, you're all over my blog today, where I'm also giving away something you don't need.
