I meant to tell you when you posted this, how I enjoyed it. I'd never thought much about thimbles, but surely they used to be a very important sewing tool. Meanwhile, I bought a Singer 503 at an auction. In the back of one of the drawers I found an envelope with a thimble, bodkin, and tape measure with a note saying they were her mother's. Searching on the internet showed me the original owner of the Singer never had children, and so while I don't have a thimble from my own sewing grandmother's or great grandmother's I feel honored to have someone else's in my care.

This is wonderful! My husband's mother died before I met him, but I have her sewing stuff, and it feels so good to connect in that way.
That is such a fabulous collection of family heirlooms. So precious :)
This is so cool, what a wonderful way to have a connection to ur ancestors and ur hobby

@ Old Round - That's a nice story! And the thimble is with someone who cares about it instead of just being thrown away.
